The Journey Begins

A week ago I began a journey I'd been on many times before, a trip on the diet seesaw. But this time I wasn't taking that ride on my own. This time I was doing this with thirteen of my colleagues at the Lorel Marketing Group in King of Prussia, PA. We agreed to eat smarter, eat less and exercise more. And we decided to sweeten the pot (don't worry, we used Splenda). Each of us anted up $10. When this trip ends in September, the person who has lost the largest percentage of his or her base weight will get the cash. We're doing this based on trust, no weigh-ins. No snickering. We're very nice people and we trust each other. Not one of us would dare to leave anonymous gifts of Godiva chocolates on our office mates' desks. No one would even think of buying new clothes two sizes too large to make it look like we lost weight. not a chance.

In the course of the ensuing weeks, I'll introduce you to the participants and give you hints as to the actions that helped and/or hurt our intentions. Hopefully, this will help you...if you're looking for this kind of help. My goal is to lose thirty pounds without losing my sense of humor (what can I say, chocolate makes me happy and lettuce makes me miserable and boring).

And so I begin this blog, not just for me. Not just for my colleagues at the Lorel Marketing Group. I keep this blog for all of us.

-For those of us who gain a pound just by pronouncing the word tiramisu correctly, while our skinny friends down a pound of Cinnabons without gaining an ounce.

-For those of us with cottage cheese thighs that keep getting cheesier every year.

-For those of us who look at a Victoria's Secret catalog and convince ourselves that every one of the models has been Photoshopped to death.

I will prevail. I'll continue this journey two times each week, with a goal to publish every Monday and Wednesday. Until then, save a lettuce leaf for me.
